Shear Sharpening Services

I’m currently focusing on restoring and repairing Japanese and German style Scissors/Shears.
Knives coming soon!
Below are the different ways I go about restoring your favorite pair of shears.

Hira-To

For precision and high quality edges and sharpening I choose to use the Hira-To. The Hira-To was designed to recreate the factory look and edge on high end convex or semi-convex Beauty, Barber, and Grooming Shears. Both right and left handed shears can be sharpened at any angle ranging from 25 to 65 degrees. The Hira-To allows me to really focus on removing the very least of metal from your shear. The more steel that is left, the longer use you can get out of them before having to replace your shears.

Whetstones

Or Sharpening stones, water stones are used to sharpen the edges of steel tools and implements through grinding and honing. After shaving the metal off, it is IMPERATIVE to use the Whetstone to replace the “Ride Line” on the inner part of Japanese shears. Though "whetstone" is often mistaken as a reference to the water sometimes used to lubricate such stones, the term is based on the word "whet", which means to sharpen a blade, not on the word "wet".

Stones are usually available in various grades, which refer to the grit size of the abrasive particles in the stone. Grit size is given as a number, which indicates the spatial density of the particles. A higher number denotes a higher density and therefore smaller particles, which leads to a finer finish of the surface of the polished object.
